Only 2,5 – 3 hours from Johannesburg, in the North West Province, lies the Pilanesberg National Park. As a transitional zone between the arid dryness of the Kalahari and the wet Lowveld vegetation, the Pilanesberg encompasses grassy plains, rocky outcrops, wooded valleys and some breath-taking dams. It’s unique placement – in a volcanic crater created over 12 million years ago from overflowing magma, and as a transitional zone – means that it is home to virtually all of the animal species native to Southern Africa, including the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, rhinoceros and buffalo), wild dog and more than 360 species of bird. Because of its relatively small size and because of its ecological richness, guests have an increased chance of experiencing the Big Five in their natural habitat.

This is the setting for the Tented Adventures Pilanesberg safari camp experience. Our passionate safari guides and camp hosts will host your unforgettable bush experience where – if you haven’t encountered enough wildlife on game drives – warthogs, banded mongooses and impala often come to visit the camp.

The Camp
The Pilanesberg camp is made up of eight safari tents; each equipped with comfortable beds, hotel-grade linen, camp chairs, electricity, carpeted flooring and large windows with mosquito nets. Tents are made up of two single beds and are equipped with a fan to cool you down in summer and electric blankets to warm you up in winter. The communal bathrooms, a short walk from the campsite, and safari tents are serviced daily. Each tent has a small deck overlooking the communal fire pit – set up in front of the tented lounge and dining area, where we’ll serve you an amazing dinner under the stars, before roasting marshmallows, laughing and telling stories around the campfire.laughing and telling stories around the campfire.

The Experience
Your stay includes a full buffet breakfast and a delicious bush dinner prepared by your hosts (Benni is fast becoming a legend with our past guests – word has it that his secret chicken marinade is out of this world!) served with wine. Our safari experience includes a morning and late afternoon game drive (optional when booked on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis). You’ll head out for a game drive with our experienced guides to track down the Big 5! In your down time, read a book under a tree, chill out in the communal area or head to one of the pools in Manyane for a cool-off swim.
